CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, USAChicago, incorporated in 1837, is the third largest city in the United States. It is the commercial, financial, industrial, and cultural centre for a vast region in the mid western United States. Chicago grew, during the 19th century, into an industrial giant, attracting thousands of immigrants. Many people, including Germans, Scandinavians, Irish, Jews, Italians, Poles, Czechs, Lithuanians, Croats, Greeks, Chinese, and American Blacks have settled in the modern city, making it a vast, cosmopolitan city. The city is home to many colleges and universities, including the University of Chicago, the Illinois Institute of Technology, De Paul University, St, Xavier College, Chicago State University, and Loyola University of Chicago. The Newberry Library and the Library of International Relations are in Chicago. The Chicago Symphony and the Lyric Opera of Chicago enhance the cultural life of the city and region. |

Venues of the IAPMC in 2008In 2008 two key events for us, members of the IAPMC, are the Executive Board meeting which will be in Suwon, S. Korea from 23-27 April 2008. The second important event is, of course, our annual General Assembly which will be kindly hosted by the city of Sochi, Russian Federation, from 13-16 November 2008. The topic of the General Assembly will be ‘The 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: The Struggle for Peace’.

60th Anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human RightsThe International Association of Peace Messenger Cities has undertaken a campaign to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It will be culminated at our General Assembly in Sochi, Russia on November 13, 2008 under the theme” The 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: The Struggle for Peace!”
